You recently began a new position in occupational health that involves the development of health promotional interventions for individuals who are at risk for chronic disease. One of the higher-risk populations served is a group of individuals who work in a local coal mining industry. In addition to the occupational health risks of coal mining, this group of clients often presents with health risks that include increased alcohol intake, primary diet high in carbohydrates and animal fats, elevated BMI, tobacco history, and financial challenges, often subsisting from one paycheck to the next in order to provide for families.
