Capstone Project and Practicum Introduction

In this assignment, you will discuss your capstone project in detail. You also need to list at least three individual behavioral objectives (using verbs that can be measured) that are based on your overall objectives for this course, as well as your population or problem of interest. (This assignment will seem similar to one from NSG7200 course. You are being asked to introduce your project again since you may have a new instructor and/or classmates. This will provide them with a frame of reference for your work.)

By the end of this course, you will:

Critically appraise the evidence related to a given subject and its application to current nursing standards and patient safety.

Evaluate multiple methods for quality improvement.

Briefly describe your preceptor and his or her academic qualifications and experience and provide a brief description of the practicum site. Describe your population or problem of interest and the challenges, issues, or concerns you might have about investigating this topic. What objectives have you set, and how do you plan to meet these objectives? How are your practicum methods supported by evidence-based practice?

Each week, you will be retrieving various articles pertaining to your population or problem of interest. In Week 1, you will be introducing your capstone project. In Weeks 2–8, you will find articles (or evidence) that support various areas of your topic.

This week we will address leadership vulnerability.  Leadership vulnerability refers to being open to new ideas from those whom you lead.  This includes fostering a safe, healthy environment and encouraging those who are qualified to assume responsibility for different tasks.

Visit the South University Online library and retrieve two peer-reviewed articles pertaining to organizational leadership and leadership vulnerability.  Critique each article, and identify how the concept of vulnerability can be a positive leadership characteristic.  Give examples of how vulnerable leaders may foster a productive, safe environment which empowers the workforce.

Week 9 Discussion

This week, you will deliver a 15- to 20-minute professional presentation of no greater than twenty Microsoft PowerPoint slides (exclusive of references) to your classmates. The presentation will be a collation of the evidence (articles) you have retrieved about your capstone topic. Use the articles that you have retrieved each week as the basis for your discussion question. The evidence should be presented in support of nursing standards and patient safety toward your topic of interest. In addition, the presentation will offer an introduction to your problem or population of interest, describe the methods proposed to conduct the project, and discuss your "next steps" as you move forward in your advanced field experience.

As you critique your weekly articles, explore the reasons for any similarities or differences within the evidence, and discuss the strength of that evidence. Present and analyze how it supports nursing standards and patient safety.
