Conclusion
Preparing
the paper
The
following are best practices for preparing this paper:
Provide an
introduction that generally addresses scope of practice, competencies, and
leadership. The introduction should identify the sections of the paper.
NPs need to
take into account rules and regulations that guide advanced practice in the
states in which they practice. Research and review the Nurse Practice Act and
APN scope of practice guidelines in your particular state. Describe educational
requirements, licensure and regulatory requirements, as well as practice
environment details for the state in which you plan to practice. Discuss
information regarding full, limited, or restricted practice limitations as well
as prescriptive authority. Provide reference support from at least one
scholarly source. For this section, the source can be your state board of
nursing or whatever regulatory/legislative body handles nursing licensure in
your state.
Review the
Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies (NONPF Competencies) contained in the
lesson. A link to the competencies can be found in the week 2 readings.
Complete a comprehensive, honest, personal assessment to identify your
strengths and opportunities for growth. Describe two competency areas in which
you’ve identified as strengths and two competency areas in which there are
opportunities for growth. Discuss two ways in which you will engage with
scholarship as you go through the master’s program to help you achieve these
competencies. Provide reference support from at least one scholarly source in
addition to the NONPF Competency link and lesson about the competencies you
selected to work on.
Analyze
three leadership skills required to lead as an NP within complex systems.
Describe two strategies you could use to help you develop those skills. Provide
reference support from at least one scholarly source to support the leadership
skills you selected and/or the strategies you will use to develop the skills.
Provide a
conclusion that summarizes the important aspects of the APN Professional
Development Plan.

Week 6 Area of Interest Power Point Presentation
Introduction
Purpose
The process
for affecting positive change to improve practice outcomes can start with
either the identification of an area of interest or the identification of a
potential or existing practice problem. Selecting an area of interest helps to
define a direction for further inquiry. The purpose of this assessment is for
students to identify and discuss an area of interest specific to their selected
specialty track. Students will identify a common practice problem related to
the selected area of interest and provide a recommendation to affect positive
change. Students will build on this project in later courses.
Note: The
purpose of the MSN project is to translate evidence currently found in the
literature into practice within the chosen specialty track. Due to the research
complexity, time involvement, and implications regarding human subjects, drug
studies are not acceptable areas of interest for an MSN project.
Course
Outcomes
Through
this assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to:
?CO1-Examine
roles and competencies of advanced practice nurses essential to performing as
leaders and advocates of holistic, safe, and quality care. (PO5)

Week 7 Discussion
Incivility
and Healthful Environments
Purpose
The purpose
of the graded collaborative discussions is to engage faculty and students in an
interactive dialogue to assist the student in organizing, integrating,
applying, and critically appraising knowledge regarding advanced nursing
practice. Scholarly information obtained from credible sources as well as
professional communication are required. Application of information to
professional experiences promotes the analysis and use of principles,
knowledge, and information learned and related to real-life professional
situations. Meaningful dialogue among faculty and students fosters the
development of a learning community as ideas, perspectives, and knowledge are
shared..
Due Date
The initial
posting to the graded collaborative discussions is due by Wednesday, 11:59 p.m.
MT. Peer and faculty responses are due by Sunday, 11:59 p.m. MT. All posts for
Week 8 are due by the close of class on Saturday, 11:59 p.m. MT. Please note
that the late assignment policy does not apply to the collaborative
discussions.
Discussion
Criteria
I. Application of Course Knowledge: of Course
Knowledge: I. The student post contributes unique perspectives or insights
gleaned from personal experience or examples from the healthcare field. The
student must accurately and fully discuss the topic for the week in addition to
providing personal or professional examples. The student must completely answer
the entire initial question.
II. Engagement in Meaningful Dialogue: I. The
student responds to a student peer and course faculty to further dialogue.
a. Peer
Response: The student responds substantively to at least one topic-related post
by a student peer. A substantive post adds content or insights or asks a
question that will add to the learning experience and/or generate discussion.
A post of
“I agree” with a repeat of the other student’s post does not count as a
substantive post. A collection of shallow posts does not equal a substantive
post.
The peer
response must occur on a separate day from the initial posting.
The peer
response must occur before Sunday, 11:59 p.m. MT.
The peer
response does not require a scholarly citation and reference unless the
information is paraphrased and/or direct quotes are used, in which APA style
standards then apply.
Faculty
Response: The student responds substantively to at least one question by course
faculty. The faculty question may be directed to the student, to another student,
or to the entire class.
A post of
"I agree" with a repeat of the faculty's post does not count as a
substantive post. A collection of shallow posts does not equal a substantive
post.
The faculty
response must occur on a separate day from the initial posting.
Responses
to the faculty member must occur by Sunday, 11:59 p.m. MT.
This response
does not require a scholarly citation and reference unless the information is
paraphrased and/or direct quotes are used, in which APA style standards then
apply.
III. Integration of Evidence: The student post
provides support from a minimum of one scholarly in-text citation with a
matching reference AND assigned readings OR online lessons, per discussion
topic per week.
What is a
scholarly resource? A scholarly resource is one that comes from a professional,
peer-reviewed publication (e.g., journals and government reports such as those
from the FDA or CDC).
Contains
references for sources cited
Written by
a professional or scholar in the field and indicates credentials of the
author(s)
Is no more
than 5 years old for clinical or research article
What is not
considered a scholarly resource?

Can the
lesson for the week be used as a scholarly source?
Information
from the weekly lesson can be cited in a posting; however, it is not to be the
sole source used in the post.
Are
resources provided from CU acceptable sources (e.g., the readings for the
week)?
Not as a
sole source within the post. The textbook and/or assigned (required) articles
for the week can be used, but another outside source must be cited for full
credit. Textbooks are not considered scholarly sources for the purpose of
discussions.
Are
websites acceptable as scholarly resources for discussions?
Yes, if
they are documents or data cited from credible websites. Credible websites
usually end in .gov or .edu; however, some .org sites that belong to
professional associations (e.g., American Heart Association, National League
for Nursing, American Diabetes Association) are also considered credible
websites. Websites ending with .com are not to be used as scholarly resources
IV. Professionalism in Communication: The post
presents information in logical, meaningful, and understandable sequence, and
is clearly relevant to the discussion topic. Grammar, spelling, and/or
punctuation are accurate.

Introduction
This graded
discussion will give you an opportunity to reflect on what you learned in this
course. Please provide an initial response to the discussion question by
Wednesday at 11:59pm MT and two interactive dialogue responses no later than
Saturday at 11:59 PM MT at the end of WEEK 8. The discussion is worth 75
points. Please refer to the discussion grading rubric for additional criteria.
Assignment
Thinking
back over this course, what were the three most important or most interesting
things you learned? How do you envision using the information you learned in
your future nursing practice? What steps will you take to ensure your success
in the master's program?
NR500 Foundational Concepts and Applications
Week 1 Reflection on Learning
Write 1-2
paragraphs reflecting on your experience of beginning your journey to achieve
your MSN and become a nurse practitioner and post to this discussion
board. Then save the reflection as a
Word Document for submission later in the course. In week 8, you will submit
all reflections as a single document.
This
reflection is worth 5 points and the final reflection document in week 8 is
worth 15 points.
You will
need to post your reflection here before you are able to see other students'
posts.
What were
the most important concepts you learned in week 1?
Why were
these concepts important?
How will
they prepare you for your future role as a master's prepared nurse?

Week 2 Reflection on Learning
Write 1-2
paragraphs reflecting on your transition to the NP role. Then save the
reflection as a Word Document for submission later in the course. In week 8,
you will submit all reflections as a single document.
This reflection
is worth 5 points and the final reflection document in week 8 is worth 15 points.
You will
need to post your reflection here before you are able to see other students'
posts.
What do you
most look forward to in your new role as an NP?
What concerns
do you have about transitioning to the role?
Did
anything about the APN roles surprise you?

Week 3 Reflection on Learning
Write 1-2
paragraphs reflecting on the concepts of caring and reflective practice. Save
the reflection as a Word Document. In week 8, you will submit all reflections
as a single document.
This
reflection is worth 5 points and the final reflection document in week 8 is
worth 15 points.
You will
need to post your reflection here before you are able to see other students'
posts.
Some
possible areas to explore:
In your
experience, how have changes in healthcare affected nurses' ability to provide
person-centered, holistic care?
As you
think ahead to your future practice as an NP, which of the concepts covered
this week resonates most with you? Why?
How do you
anticipate that the concept of cultural humility will affect your practice?

need to post your reflection here before you are able to see other students'
posts.
In what
ways could an understanding of systems theory and complexity science impact the
role of the NP?
Take a few
minutes to reflect on the NP practice model that is most predominant in
advanced practice environments you have observed. Are you satisfied with the
demonstrated level of interprofessional collaboration?
Briefly
consider what appears to be the driving practice model for advanced practice
nursing in your state. If your state lags behind in its practice model
language, what might you do to facilitate change?

Nearly
every student in the course was able to think of a time when they had
personally been impacted by or had observed incivility in the workplace. In
what ways does this impact your view of the nursing profession? If those
outside of healthcare were aware, how might it impact their view?
As you move
towards your role as an NP, what will you do to support healthful work
environments for yourself and your colleagues?
Think about
your personal use of social media. Are there changes you would like to make in how
you use social media?
What
self-care practices do you engage in to promote personal holistic health?
