Case Vignette

 Jeff and Jessica have been married for four years and have a one-year-old son. Both of them began to experience conflicts when Jessica was pregnant. She complained that Jeff often came home in the early morning hours with the smell of cigarettes and alcohol on his body. Jeff said that he moved into a new job when she was pregnant. He is in the advertising industry, which requires him to entertain his clients. Both are dissatisfied with their marriage. Jessica moved back to her parent's home after a big quarrel six months ago. Jeff has not been able to see his son regularly for six months. He would need to go through his mother to see his son. He is very unhappy about the situation and is critical of Jessica. Jessica feels Jeff is not a good father for their son and does not fulfil his role as a father. She does not think that he will change and has decided to file for divorce. Jeff was shocked to receive the legal papers.
