Linear Regression

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to apply knowledge of data analysis and interpretation by developing and running a linear regression in SPSS. This includes proper result reporting in the form of a paper with output from SPSS and appropriate tables included.

Requirements

The Linear Regression Assignment will be graded on accurately completing a linear regression using a specified data source. In addition to this, students are expected to analyze the results of the data, correctly report this information, and speak of the significance of their findings in terms of public health. The quality of self-assessment, use of citations, use of Standard English grammar, sentence structure, and overall organization based on the required components as summarized in the directions and grading criteria/rubric.

Create your product using Microsoft Word, which is the required format for this assignment. Place output from SPSS into this word document as an appendix.

The length of this assignment is to be no less than 3 and no greater than 6 pages, excluding title and reference pages.

Preparing the Assignment

Linear regression is used to model or predict unknown outcomes based on relationships between independent and dependent variables. Simple linear regression allows us to look at the linear relationship between one normally distributed interval predictor and one normally distributed interval outcome variable.

You will complete a Linear Regression analysis for this assignment using the data set provided.

The variables you will consider are smoking of the mother and if the babies were of low birth weight.

You will include a narrative that includes possible hypotheses and null hypotheses, an explanation of the relationship between the variables, and report the important results in APA format.
