SPCH275 Week 1 Presentation Latest 2017 August

Self-Introduction Speech

Deliver a short presentation (1 to 2 minutes) in which you introduce yourself to a group of people. Think for a short bit about what you might share with either an audience of your peers or people you might be meeting for the first time in a professional situation. Then take a look at the recording presentations guidelines to ensure that you have everything, and begin recording when you are ready. It may take you some time to get all of the logistics (e.g., adequate light, ensuring that the sound level is audible, and framing yourself), so plan to capture at least several test runs before the final recording. Though you may wish to include them, no outline or audience members are required for this presentation.

SPCH275 Week 2 Homework Latest 2017 August

Impromptu Speaking and Self-Evaluation

Part I: Present and record a 1- to 2-minute impromptu presentation on a topic of your choice. Though you should choose something that allows you to be clear, the topic may be relatively free flowing. It may help to start with a single question. Here are sample questions that may be used to get you started with ideas:

  • How would you spend lottery winnings?
  • What charity or cause would you support?
  • If you were able to travel to a time or place in history, where would you go?
  • What is one challenge you have faced?
  • What is your favorite book, video game, television show, or song?
  • Where would you like to take a vacation?
  • What is a current event that interests you?
  • Whom do you admire?
  • What was your most embarrassing moment?

Part II: Listen and view your presentation, and write a short critique of your work. Use the following prompts to frame your critique:

1. Write two paragraphs about what did or did not surprise you about watching the video of your presentation. Feel free to discuss the differences or similarities between your perceptions immediately after the presentation and those after watching the video.

2. Identify both two strengths and two areas of opportunity in your public speaking skills.

Submit Part II as a Word (.docx) file. Save your file with the following naming convention: James Schneider SPCH 275 Week 2 Assignment.

Classmate Feedback

Please deliver and record a structured critique of at least one of your classmates' presentations. It's a good idea to assemble notes or write a brief outline of your comments before you begin, though neither is required for this assignment. To frame the basis of your feedback, please consider the following areas:

  • Have a clear plan and avoid the tendency to ramble.
  • Balance positive comments with areas of opportunity.
  • Address all four canons of rhetoric (invention, arrangement, style, and delivery) for content.
  • Use examples to support your comments.
  • Provide both honest and encouraging feedback aimed at your classmates' awareness and improvement.

Though there is no strict time limit for this presentation, aim to keep it concise but still address the above listed areas with sufficient details. Your classmate will receive this feedback, so please make this an exercise in developing your critiquing skills and a tool for other speakers' growth.

A references list with at least seven to eight DeVry University Library sources should be part of the outline, with each reference parenthetically cited on the outline. During the delivery of the presentation, there should be an oral citation for every reference item.

· Documentation: The group needs to submit a presentation outline written in complete sentences (along with a references list), a copy of the PowerPoint file (and any other visual aids used in the presentation), and any handouts the team may choose to distribute during or after the presentation.
