Biology Question

Assignment # 2

Draw cellular respiration (without writing all the details but highlighting the important part of the reactions!). Label your drawings.

The following will serve as your guide when you draw each step. Tell the story why you got those products (e.g. pyruvate and how many are there per glucose molecules). Use arrows, lines and shapes in your drawing. You can use Microsoft powerpoint/word, Canva, or Biorender app, or you can draw these steps by hand. Write a note or explanation why you got those products/results. You can also add a table showing the number of molecules (e.g. ATP, NADH, CO2, O2) generated from the process. For example (this example has nothing to do with cellular respiration or photosynthesis),

Extracellular space

Binding of the ligand (yellow) to the receptor (green) leads to the activation of the receptor which then activates protein X (blue circle) Cell membrane cytoplasm

1) Glycolysis (the following will serve as your guide)

a) draw a diagram showing the conversion of glucose to pyruvate

b) how many carbon atoms in each molecule (glucose and pyruvate)

c) explain why you got ________ number of pyruvate molecules during this reaction

d) how many ATP molecules are used and made?

e) how many NAD molecules are reduced?

2) Kreb Cycle a) from pyruvate, show how it is converted into another molecule before entering the Kreb cycle (preparatory step)

b) what part of the cell is the Kreb cycle being carried out?

c) how many NAD and FAD are reduced?

c) how many ATP molecules are made?

d) how is ATP made (remember the GTP)?

3) Electron Transport Chain a) what is an electron transport chain?

b) what happens to NADH and FADH2 during this process?

 c) How is the electrochemical gradient made?

d) How is ATP generated and how many ATP generated per glucose molecule?

Assignment # 3

Draw photosynthesis (without writing all the details but highlighting the important part of the reactions!). Label your drawings. Videos and powerpoint slides are in the blackboard. If you don’t see them, please message me, write Homework 2 and 3 in the subject.

The following will serve as your guide when you draw each step. Tell the story why you got those products (e.g. glucose and how many are there). Use arrows, lines and shapes in your drawing. You can use Microsoft powerpoint/word, Canva, or Biorender app, or you can draw these steps by hand. Write a note or explanation why you got those products/results. You can also add a table showing the number of molecules (e.g. ATP, NADPH, CO2, H2O) generated from the process. For example (this example has nothing to do with cellular respiration or photosynthesis),

Extracellular space Binding of the ligand (yellow) to the receptor (green) leads to the activation of the receptor which then activates protein X (blue circle) Cell membrane cytoplasm

1) Light dependent reaction (the following will serve as guide)

a) draw a diagram showing how solar energy is involved in the production of eand H+ and Oxygen.

b) how NADP is reduced

c) how ATP is generated

d) where does this reaction takes place?

2) Calvin Cycle or Light-independent reaction

a) how CO2 is converted to 3PGA then to G3P

 b) what are the 3 steps of Calvin cycle?

c) How is RuBP involved in the generation of glucose? d) Where does this reaction take place?
