This guide will explain to you the main layers of the earth\u2019s surface with their unique character traits. To start with, here is the composition of the air particles present in the earth\u2019s atmosphere.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nitrogen<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oxygen<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Argon<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carbon dioxide<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traces of neon, helium, krypton, hydrogen, and water vapors<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On combining up all the above elements, the different layers of the earth\u2019s surface are formed that make the atmosphere in turn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Layers of the Atmosphere &#8211; What Lies Above<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Troposphere<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Layer closest to the earth surface\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The thickness stretches from 4 to 12 miles respectively<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This layer has clouds due to the presence of water and dust particles<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">99% of the water particles are found in this layer of the atmosphere<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On striding high in the troposphere, the air pressure drops and temperature soars<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The major portion of the clouds appear in this portion<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stratosphere<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second layer extends about 50 km<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It contains ozone that helps in absorbing the U.V. rays of the sun<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The absorbed rays are in turn converted into heat<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jets and air balloons fly in this zone due to the dry atmosphere<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lower stratosphere is an ideal zone for the commercial passenger for the jets<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The border between the troposphere and stratosphere allows jet streams to flow smoothly<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mesosphere<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consists of a topmost layer called the mesopause<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This layer extends up to 85 km above the planet earth<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the coldest part of the earth\u2019s atmosphere with an average temperature of about 130 F<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The air in this layer is too thin to breathe. Also, the air pressure drop as one goes down<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thermosphere<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This layer has low air density, which makes it a part of the outer space<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The atoms shed the excess of energy in the form of photons producing Aurora Australis<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This layer absorbs X-rays and U.V. rays from the sun<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many satellites orbit rath within the thermosphere<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This layer shows the aurora, Northern and Southern lights<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exosphere<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The highest and the thinnest layer<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exosphere is said to be the \u201cfinal frontier\u201d of the earth\u2019s envelope<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this point, the earth\u2019s atmosphere meets with the outer space<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consists of dispersed particles of hydrogen and helium<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ionosphere<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Series of regions present in the mesosphere and thermosphere\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this layer, the U.V. radiation from the sun loosens and detach the atoms and molecules from the parent atom and molecules<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this process, the electrically charged atoms called ions are formed<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While staring at the sky, we at times wonder what lies above it.
