About the Author<\/h2>\n

Joseph Heller<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Joseph Heller<\/em><\/strong> was born in New York City, America in 1923. He wrote the bestseller Catch-22 in 1961 as protest literature to appear after World War 2. He had the experience of teaching English at the Pennsylvania State University and an Advertising Copywriter for the magazine Time and Look. After the novel Catch-22, the word came in the English literature as a reference to a proviso that trips one up no matter which way one turns.<\/p>\n

About the Novel<\/h2>\n

\u201cCatch 22\u201d satirizes war by making serious fun of life in the American military during World War II. If you are in sympathy with its premise \u2014 that war insidiously and absurdly brutalizes its participants \u2014 you may find it funny, tragic, and enjoyable. Certainly, it is well-conceived and skillfully written. It has won a permanent place on the list of great 20th Century American fiction and is one of my favorite books.<\/p>\n
